Prepare website copy and images for the development team

A short placeholder heading fits the design, but the approved copy is three times longer. A product photograph downloaded from a chat looks blurred on desktop. The materials have arrived, yet they are not ready for publication.
Content preparation belongs early in a website project. Copy length, image orientation and information structure affect layout. Resolving them sooner reduces the need to force final material into a temporary-content frame.
Give each page a question to answer
Identify the reader and what they need to understand. A service page may need scope and a next step; a product page needs relevant specifications and availability. A general company introduction cannot answer every page’s questions.
Supply editable text with clear headings and sections. The W3C headings tutorial connects headings to content organisation. Enlarging or bolding words alone does not fully describe that structure.

Verify facts and photographs
Assign someone to confirm prices, experience, completed projects and contact details. Do not fill an unknown result with an impressive invented number. Mark missing information and name the person who will supply it.
Keep the original-quality photograph and identify permission to use it. Check whether it represents the correct product, actual work or an illustration. Enlarging a small file cannot recover missing detail. Select views suited to their purpose instead of repeating one picture everywhere.

Explain the purpose of each image
Identify where the image belongs and what matters within it. Check the risk of cropping the subject when a narrow mobile view is needed. Do not leave essential context only in an arbitrary filename.
The W3C guidance on informative images connects text alternatives to purpose. A short explanation of what the reader should learn helps the team. A decorative element and an essential diagram need different treatment.
- Group materials by page and purpose.
- Provide structured copy and confirmed facts.
- Identify image sources, usage rights and required views.
- Explain the meaning of important visuals briefly.
- Approve a clearly identified publication version.
During website development, ready material has an agreed purpose, content and permitted use. The number of delivered files cannot establish that readiness.
